The Other Side of the Island

Procida, Italy      •      10 km

A fresh and new view is always desirable. How fortunate that Procida has many different shores so that every one of it feels different. Arrival at the Naples-facing side, not so far from known territories and the Vesuvio still throwning over everything.

Marina Grande – Coricella – 500m
Corricella – Spiaggia Chiaia – 500m

It takes three minutes of running to reach the other side of the island, where the water is calm and the light is soft. Another ten minutes of street to the spiaggia Chiaia, where Vesuvio reappears, but only glances through the cliffs.

Chiaia – Chiaiolella (with a detour to Solchiaro) 4,4km

There is a passage facing Capri. But the most intriguing is Ischia, because it is probably the closest volcano around. Vesuvio is out of the league. And because it is that part of the island where there are comparatively less houses. The rest of the road is profoundly built up. Which is why after Chiaiolella the thin line of the horizon disappears behind the concrete (and the lemon trees).

This is probably the longest beach in Prochida to run. Apparently people in Procida and in all other cliff coastal parts around Naples climb down with ropes to the beaches most beautiful.

Chiaiolella – Marina Grande (along the coast) 4,6km
